History of Royal Restrooms®

From the depths of a porta potty mishap in 2004 surged a revolution in the portable restroom industry. Outdoor event guests everywhere needed a sensible portable restroom alternative, and two innovative guys with an idea had the solution.

On a beautiful spring day in Savannah, Georgia, commercial banker David Sauers, Jr. and his family were enjoying a festival in one of the city’s community parks. The occasion gave Sauers opportunity to introduce exciting experiences to his young children. Then the inevitable call of nature struck his potty-training daughter.

As Sauers approached the porta potties at the edge of the venue with his daughter and infant on his hip, he encountered a conundrum with the situation he faced. The porta potty had no lights, no toilet paper, no running water, no soap, and no room for the threesome.

Any number of disasters could, and did occur, leaving dad and daughter soiled, the infant in the arms of a stranger, and all three of them annoyed by their unfortunate experience. Their day at the festival was done.

Substandard bathroom conditions at outdoor events abruptly turned unacceptable to Sauers. Embracing necessity for change in the industry, he resolved to develop a sanitary and comfortable portable restroom option.

Sauers partnered with friend and engineer Robert Glisson to do just that. Leaving successful careers behind them, Sauers and Glisson co-founded Royal Restrooms® and paved the way for a contemporary portable restroom industry.

The Regal Portable Restroom Experience™

Because a home bathroom provides the optimal conditions for personal care, the team designed their Royal Restrooms with consideration to the comforts of home. The spacious restrooms included functioning bathroom fixtures, lights, vanities and mirrors, climate control, and toiletries.

Sauers and Glisson further defined their Royal Restrooms brand, calling it a regal portable restroom experience™, and added contemporary decor, music, and their signature butter mints on the counter tops.

The team housed their restrooms inside custom trailers outfitted with exterior lights, stairs with handrails, and occupancy light indicators. Now fully mobile, luxury portable restrooms were ready to go virtually anywhere.

In ten years of business, the Royal Restrooms product line has expanded to over a dozen varied designs and sizes to include portable shower trailers, ADA certified restrooms and showers, and premium models.

With a successful business model in place for the Royal Restrooms flagship office in Savannah, the founders turned their attention toward national franchising opportunities as Royal Restrooms Management Corporation.

Today, there are 47 Royal Restrooms offices located in 15 states. Each office is independently owned and operated by individuals dedicated to serving the communities in which they live.
